Ways to Lower Your Insurance Costs

There are many types of insurance available to consumers. It seems like almost anything can be insured these days. Car, home, renter, condo, flood, motorcycle, business and life are all examples of types of insurance. As with any product, it always makes you feel better if you are getting a deal and saving money as well. Below are some ways to lower what you pay for auto insurance.

Bundle Your Insurance

As previously mentioned, there are a lot of forms of insurance. Most households hold a variety of insurance products. It is proven that if you purchase insurance through the same company that you will save money. Most insurance companies offer discounts for multiple policies. This discount can be substantial so it is worth it to shop around and see what the companies have to offer. Not only do you get a discount, but you are also establishing a relationship with one individual and have one point of contact which is a positive in itself.

Amount Covered

It is best to review your policies to see what coverage you have and if it is necessary. Sometimes you are over insured so you can save money by changing your policy. There are certain minimums that have to met when it comes to leasing cars or owning homes, but you can save money by not going overboard. For example, if you have an extremely old and beat up car, it might not be necessary to have a sophisticated plan. You could be spending more than what the car is even worth in this scenario!

Increase Deductible

Your deductible is the amount of money that you pay out of your own pocket when you make a claim. For some policy’s it may be smart to increase it to save money. The higher your deductible, the lower your monthly costs. For example, if you want renters insurance but don’t think you have a high risk of using it you may opt for a high deductible and take that gamble. The insurance will cover you for a catastrophic event. It is all about the gamble you are willing to take.

Shop Around

As mentioned before, you can easily shop around for insurance to find the best deal. Often times consumers take the easy way out for pure convenience but that doesn’t mean you will get a deal and save some money.  The trick I have used is to take your current policy and just provide it to multiple agents and ask them if they can beat it. Send it around and you will be sure to get your current policy for cheaper. Unfortunately this business is just like many others and the agents are just trying to make the most they can. If they know they can win your business they will be happy to offer you a competitive price.

Hopefully these tips and tricks will help save you and your family money when it comes to insurance.
