Take Action Tuesday: New Years Resolutions

On January 1st of every year, millions of people set new year’s resolutions. Some set goals to let a new skill, some vow to lose weight, and some promise to start getting out of credit card debt.

Today is December 7th, which leaves 25 days until the the new year.

Why wait to start your new year’s resolution? Why not take advantage of the next 25 days and get a head start?

That could mean taking a few guitar lessons, going to the gym 5 times, or making a nice payment on that credit card bill. Starting TODAY.

Most of the time, the hardest part of change is the beginning. Quitting a bad habit or starting a good one is difficult when it’s new, but it gets easier with every day.

Running 5 miles today would be difficult, but running just 1 or 2 is an easier task. Do that 3 or 4 times in the next 25 days, and you’ll be ready for an increase.

If you start today, when all your friends are just starting, you’ll be weeks ahead. And guess who will have a better shot at reaching the goal?

Don’t wait until January to work on your goals. By waiting, you are silently indicating that you don’t have the motivation to start yet.

  1. I must have been anticipating this post. I got up this morning, got dressed, and pledged to get in all my exercise and start eating better starting TODAY (not tomorrow). Today is like the New Year for me.

  2. I was just thinking about this, and I decided I’m going to wait. I have a few reasons. First, my resolution will be to drink only water (not for the whole year, probably just January). I don’t want to start now because I have a lot of soda that’s just going to sit around and tempt me, and I’d rather drink it before I start. And secondly, I always eat and drink unhealthily around the holidays and I wouldn’t dream of changing that.

  3. Yes, we should start NOW! But, as the Holidays are really coming fast, still got a lot of other things going on such as gifts, x-mas menu for my “convives”, cleaning over, meeting year goals… Although, one resolution started last week: training myself to eat less now so I don’t gain 20 pounds during the Holidays! I am planning on keeping this one for 2011 as well.

  4. I don’t believe in resolutions! Anything I wanted to accomplish, I decided to do something immediately coupled with a plan. To wait for some arbitrary date (New Years) to resolve something seems destine to fail. You’re start now!

  5. I’m very motivated. I need to outline it first (since they’ll be year long or measurable goals) and create my motivation board (I go all out for goals) and get to it :)
