Best of the Rest: Best Personal Finance April Fool’s Day Posts

This was a fun April Fool’s Day for many of us. I surprised a roommate by putting our giant 50-pound deer in front of his door in the morning. Why do we have a giant deer? Because our landlord decided that his April Fool’s joke would come in July and last the whole year because he didn’t have anywhere else to store it.

There were a bunch of great April Fool’s Day posts out there by other personal finance bloggers. Below are the best 4 in my mind. They put enough time into these and added just enough detail to make them ridiculous but also believable enough that I’m sure they fooled a bunch of people.
Planning a $100,000 Strategic Default @ My Dollar Plan – Definitely believable, and I’m sure there are people who are in this situation who use the tactic to avoid paying off a boatload of debt.

The Reason I Haven’t Been Posting Lately – I Accepted A Full-Time Job Offer! @ Man vs Debt – I don’t know what gave it away, but I love the line “And in 3-10 years, I should be able to provide that security.” Hilarious.

I Bought a Zenith Men’s Defy Xtreme Tourbillon Titanium Chronograph Watch @ Bargaineering – I liked that this one had free shipping. That makes the whole thing worth it!

Changing the Blog Name To… @ PT Money – I saw this one coming from a mile away, but it still made me laugh.

How did you celebrate April Fool’s Day?

  1. The 100k strategic default was hilarious. Especially since I would not be entirely surprised to see that some folks out there are considering it for real.

    Thanks for the post links!
