Best of the Rest: 300 Subscribers Edition

Hey guys, it’s been a very exciting week for me. I started Sweating The Big Stuff in Septemer 2009, and on Friday we hit 300 subscribers for the first time! I never really set goals for the blog, but this is one I thought it would take a lot longer to hit.

I want to thank each of you for supporting me and helping me get to where I am. Whether you follow me on twitter, ‘like’ me on Facebook, or just read and get something out of my posts, this is all about you. If nobody ever read, I would probably definitely have stopped a long time ago. So a million times, THANK YOU!

What does this mean for subscribers?

As I hit the mark, I’m ready to make an exciting change that I think many of you will enjoy. I need a few days to set it up, but I’ll have more details next week that will be sure to knock your socks off! Plus, since you support me, of course I have to give back, so be on the lookout for some nice giveaways!

How else can readers support Sweating The Big Stuff?

Funny you should ask. As exciting I am about hitting this milestone, I don’t want to plateau, I want to keep growing. Even though it only takes a few seconds, if you share and article you enjoy with one friend, or tweet one, or ‘like’ one on Facebook (the buttons to do so are on every post!), it would make a huge difference. If you get something out of the site, share it with someone. Maybe they’ll enjot it too!

If you’d like to go a step further, one metric to track websites is the Alexa Toolbar. It’s small and the more people who have the toolbar and visit, the higher I get ranked. You can go get it here and every time you visit, you’ll be helping!

What articles have other bloggers written recently that everyone should read?

Funny you should ask. Here are the articles I’ve been reading lately and I think you’ll enjoy them:

Kay Lynn from Bucksome Boomer asks if cell phone insurance is worth the price. She breaks down pros and cons, and comes to the same conclusion I did, that it’s not worth it. Of course, I went a step further, arguing that it’s a scam.

Silicon Valley Blogger from The Digerati Life shares some nice insights retailers who use negative publicity to generate buzz. While you expect to deal with normal people, there are some bad eggs out there. The sad part happens when these guys purposely get bad publicity to drive up business. Gross.

Kristina from Green Panda Tree House asks if hiding money from her boyfriend makes her a bad girlfriend. Not a bad girlfriend, but a little selfish. It shouldn’t be a problem, but once she starts feeling guilty about it though, she should probably fess up and it will blow over, probably faster than she thinks.

Lazy Man and Money asks if he should take advantage of Costco’s return policy. I say definitely, especially since one of the biggest reasons he bought the tv in the first place was the return policy. But the question is: how long is too long?

Where else can I find you around the web?

Recently, I was featured in the Best of Money Carnival hosted by Magical Penny. What an honor!

Also, as you may have heard, I’ve been writing for Currency, a blog by American Express. I had two articles come out this week, How Much Should You Spend on Having Fun? and Getting Tax Breaks for Paying for College.

    1. @Evan, Thanks, you’ll hit it very soon, you’re someone who started around the same time as me and I’ve spent all this time looking up at you. I can hear your footsteps.

  1. Congrats on getting 300 subscribers. Guess what? You’ll get to 600 in half the time that you got to 300. I look forward to reading your “600 Subscriber” post.
