Best of the Rest: October Edition

The MLB postseason is here, and it’s my favorite time of the year. There’s nothing that gets my heart racing more than a Yankee game in October, and watching the past three games has been even more stressful and exhilarating than I remember it being.

In between watching the games and reading pre-game, in-game, and post-game notes, I’ve had some time to read a lot of good articles. These were my favorites:

Since Peter at Bible Money Matters is a big Twins fan, I decided to throw him a bone after his tough week and promote his article about how taxpayers could face a tax increase. Actually, it’s a great article and would have made it in the roundup regardless of the outcome of the series. He takes a look at the issues caused by Congress not acting on a major decision that will affect a lot of people.

Len Penzo wrote about requirements creep and how it affected his home remodeling project. Sometimes things just seem to balloon and suddenly your costs are way above what you expected. What a pain!

I can never get enough posts about financial planners, and The Financial Blogger has a nice one about what it’s actually like. Making cold calls doesn’t sound interesting, but keeping up with the financial news and meeting with clients (plus, being in charge of your own time!) sound fantastic!

Frugal Zeitgeist tells us how to ask for a raise. I think the best recommendation Forest gives is to make yourself indispensable. There’s no better way to show how much you’re worth than by letting them imagine what would happen if you quit day.

I took part in the following carnivals:

Carnival of Personal Finance Oktoberfest Edition hosted by Alpha Consumer with Are You Missing The Big Picture?

Enjoy the day watching baseball and football!

  1. Hey Daniel, thanks for the link :). I agree, if it harms them to get rid of you they can’t really refuse a raise!
